The best time is to start from second year. This will make your preparation much easier and will reduce a lot of end moment burden.
From second year of college, you start having the subjects which are part of the GATE syllabus. What we are taught in college doesn’t make our basics clear.
Try to make the basics clear and complete the particular subjects taught in the particular semesters itself.Solve the previous 15 year GATE questions.
I just told you to do it from second year because I have seen a lot of people regretting that they wasted a lot of time in college and then take 2–3 years gap to prepare.
And yes, studying only 3 hours daily will do it. Don’t miss the college fun ðŸ˜€
All the best! ðŸ™‚

HOW DO I SCHEDULE MY GATE PREPARATION WHILE RUNNING 4TH YEAR?

As you can see that you dont have enough time left for your exam. So as per your question i could say that you are looking forward to crack your gate exam.I would like you to share with you my strategy how i prepared and got a good score in GATE.
I think self study is the best study for these type of hypertension exams as in these as many new things you would explore as big your success would be so you should go for it.
For self study i would recommend Vani Institute STUDY MATERIAL as it is mostly best for major branches except chemical, when you have the study material study each and every topic deeply, make your own notes and practice daily. Give as many mocks as you can and analyse your strengths and weaknesses and overcome your weaknesses.
Some people will recommend you standard books but i would say that these standard books are just a waste of time because they take too much time to learn and understand and you may not find all the topics .

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE GATE 2019 WITHOUT COACHING FROM MECHANICAL?

Cracking GATE examination requires proper study strategy, determination and focus. It requires constant efforts towards each subject in clearing up the basic concepts to obtain good marks.

Do’s for GATE Exam

  • Prepare easy subject first
  • Focus more on 2 mark questions. They boost your Score exponantially
  • Keep your fundamentals and concepts clear. The Questions asked in the GATE Exam are mostly based on the fundamental concepts.
  • By giving Mock test you will actually know about question pattern and gain experience.
  • Practice as many Mock-tests as you can (that too as per the Standard pattern of the Gate Exam)
  • Solve at-least last last 10 years Previous Papers. It will make you get the idea about the type of Questions being asked in the Exam.

Don’ts for GATE Exam

  • Don’t lose your hope and confidence in preparation.
  • Don’t start your preparation with hard subjects. It may waste your time.
  • Don’t waste your time studying stuff that is out of syllabus.
  • Don’t Waste on your time in reading all the books for a single topic.
  • Don’t discuss the doubts just before the Exam at the Exam Centre.

GATE Self Study Tips

  1. Understand that you cannot get 100 marks in GATE ðŸ™‚ I think even 90 is a tough ask. Toppers answer around 85-90 marks (of course it depends on the paper’s difficulty, but the general trend is this).
  2. NEVER OMIT ANY subject. I find most students omit a subject based on the weightage.
  3. Self-study works, but I would suggest joining a coaching institute if you unable to understand concepts.
  4. Aptitude & Maths will make a huge difference in your scores. Around 30 marks (including aptitude) is really easy to score. They are usually less difficult and direct than subject questions.
  5. Solve as many previous year GATE problems as you can.
  6. Learn concepts only from standard books
  7. Use standard books.
  8. Solve 10–15 Questions Daily.
  9. Make Your Own Formula Sheet.
Don’t forget these tips ever. These are very important for GATE Exam.
